  • Discover your Sims' passion from a wide range of new activity types, from sports to science to arts and crafts. All-new hobbies include basketball, soccer, restoring cars, ballet, even searching for stars and planets!
  • Hobbies offer lifetime rewards. As your Sims master new activities they'll unlock aspirations, earn rewards, and uncover secret lots.
  • Once your Sims build up their skills, they can sell their arts and crafts or see how they stack up against the competition by entering dance, food, and video game contests!
  • All-new group activities are a great way for Sims to spend time with family and friends. There are even special activities for kids and toddlers, including an activity table for drawing and playing with blocks!
  • Hobbies can be full of unexpected moments, especially for Sims with low skill levels. Your newbie Sim might sew a bear with one eye, make a lopsided jar on the pottery wheel, get poison ivy while hiking, or who knows what?!

Sims will be able to pursue employment in five new careers including dance, entertainment, intelligence, oceanography and architecture. There are another 5 careers, totalling 25 now for The Sims 2. The careers are Oceanography, Intelligence, Entertainment, Dance, Architecture. A poll on Snooty Sims showed that fans like the careers pretty much equally though Architecture stood out most and Entertainer wasn't very popular:

It has been revealed that there will be a new creature, a Genie, quite similar to the one in The Sims Livin' Large. The expansion will also add new secret lots.

The ten new hobbies included in the expansion pack are fitness, cooking, music/dance, sports, nature, science, films/books, gaming, tinkering, and arts/crafts. Every Sim is created with a predetermined hobby which cannot be modified by the player. While the bar is filled, the Sim will be "in the zone," shown graphically as a white glow around the Sim; preventing their needs from decaying.

Note: Not all fixes will take effect on existing The Sims 2 FreeTime saved games. If you have an existing lot, Sim, object or neighborhood that does not seem to be improved by this patch, we recommend that you replace the affected object, or create either a new family, lot or neighborhood, depending on what is affected by the bug.
  1. Sims will now remember which side of the bed is theirs to sleep on.
  2. Crash will no longer occur when users attempt to load another lot while associating a neighborhood using the Advanced Neighborhood Options panel.
  3. "Neon Flamingo" is no longer missing from Buy Mode.
  4. In Audio Options, Custom Station icon no longer blocks the Stop button.
  5. University Service NPCs are now able to join a dance contest in a Secret Hobby lot if they are not on the job.
  6. Sims will no longer pop back onto the screen when Sims walk to a Secret Hobby Lot.
  7. "Electrono-Ticket Machine" will now correctly turn off when you move a Home lot into the Lots and Houses Bin.
  8. Saved lots with an in progress dance contest will now reset correctly when placed into the Lots and Houses Bin.
  9. Sims can now watch UFOs with the "Astrowonder Telescope".
  10. Sims can no longer mark items for sale on top of the "Upright Pottery Wheel by QuicKraft".
  11. Iconic Hobbyist NPCs can now be reached by telephone after meeting them.
  12. "Socialus Butterfly" can now be caught for the Bug Collection.
  13. Sims will no longer teleport when you cancel the walk home interaction in a community lot.

  15. First woohoo memory will now occur when Sims woohoo for the first time in a tent.
  16. The reduced bladder effect from the "ShowMeOff Rack of Glory" will now trigger correctly when Sims are in range.
  17. Sims reading a book from the cooking genre will now correctly gain Cuisine Enthusiasm.
  18. Preoccupation will now work correctly at level 10.
  19. Pets will no longer chew or scratch cribs if they are in use.
