Apologies for the recent downtime; it was apparently caused by an attack on our hosting provider, which forced them to change the address of our website, rendering the URL useless. If you're reading this message, it's back up and working as normal (although it may take a while to propagate the changes across the entire web).
The Future! [Site] - posted by Sam
The future is here!
The Simpedia developers have disappeared, leaving the site in the more than capable hands of its volunteer administrators. But we hear a rumor from time to time of a top-secret project... Okay, who are we kidding? We're preparing the new site, in time to be unveiled with the release of The Sims 3. So where do you come in? Well, for one thing, we need you to tell us what you want from the new site - if you have any ideas, let us know at http://simpedia.co.uk/alphaforum. We're also looking for talented young PHP and Javascript coders to help out with some of our more ambitious projects - if you think you have what it takes, email me!
13th September - Software upgrade and bugfixes [Site] - posted by Sam
We're now running a fully featured copy of MediaWiki 1.11, as opposed to the alpha testing version we had previously. We've also fixed all the issues with images, as far as I can tell, so feel free to delete all those images it wouldn't let you delte before!
6th September - Stuf dats bin lyk, goin on [Site] - posted by Sam
There's been quite a lot going on over the last week or two, and consequently I haven't had time to post as much as I'd like to. Just to give you an update on what's been going on:
- The downloads pages have been given a makeover - they may still look the same, but the code has been redesigned and improved, so hopefully everything now works.
- A new sysop election system has been implemented - if you're interested, please take a look at Simpedia:Sysop.
- Simpedia download contests have been rescheduled, and will now be happening once every 2 months, as far as I can remember.
- The server is now much more reliable and faster, and the downtime should be significantly less.
- All bugs are now fixed and all aspects of the site are now working.
Download creation is working! [Site] - posted by Sam
Finally, I've managed to create a working template for adding downloads, with a reasonably usable user interface, which is always good. Go to Download:New to see it. And please, nobody except Ed change it... that would be annoying.
In other News...
- We are nearing the 20,000 hits mark, but I'm guessing most of that was me.
- Image thumbnails are broken.
- 110mb keeps throwing up random errors about "exec".
- FTP is down.
- If we could move to a better server, we would, but we can't, because there isn't one.
That's all from me.
