[edit] What is a Sysop?

'Sysops' are the administrators, or moderators, of Simpedia. They have special powers over the site, and can do things like deleting and protecting pages, or editing parts of the site which are not editable by other users.

[edit] What do I have to do as a Sysop?

Sysops have a responsibility to look after the site and its users. They should answer other users' questions about the site, and they should make sure that all aspects of the site function correctly and look as they are intended to. This requires a thorough knowledge of WikiML, the language used to edit the site.

[edit] What rules do I have to follow as a Sysop?

The following are the basic (but not exclusive) rules of adminship, and failing to follow them may mean your time as a Sysop is cut abruptly short:

  • All major edits to the site, for instance modifying the main page or any major site template, must be discussed with a Developer (currently EdK or Sam)
  • Editing 'Official' pages (pages in the 'Official:' namespace) is utterly forbidden.

[edit] How do I become a Sysop?

Now that Simpedia is growing larger and attracting a wider range of people, we have decided to implement a system for electing admins, or 'Sysops'. Similar to the system in place on Wikipedia, each candidate must produce a list of reasons why they think they should be a Sysop. Anybody may post responses, supporting or opposing the request. After a brief discussion period, the Developers will review the request, taking into account the candidate's previous work on the site and their position in the Simpedia community, and come to a final decision - possibly after asking the applicant questions. If the request is successful, the candidate will be given full Sysop priveleges, along with a responsibility to look after the site and its users as well as they can. If unsuccessful, feedback will be given by the Developers as to how the candidate could improve their application, and they will be allowed to reapply after a further month.

All Sysops elected under the old system will have their status reviewed as per the above process. This is to avoid unfairness and to ensure that all our Sysops are able to manage the site adequately.

To apply to be a site Sysop, please click the [+] button at the top of the page or click here, and post your application. After a period of discussion, the length of which may vary, a response will be posted by one or both of the developers. Please be aware that all the developers must be in agreement about the appointment.

Please note after your request is read you may be made a Developer, so if this is not what you want please note that in your application.

[edit] Example Application

[edit] Your Username

I feel that I should be a Simpedia administrator because:

  • Include reasons why you want to be an administrator.
  • Tell us (and everyone else) why they should vote for you.

I would use my administrator rights to:

  • Give examples of what you would do.
  • Try to persuade us that you have a good reason for wanting to be a Sysop, rather than just wanting power.

I understand that being an admin is an important role and...
(persuade us that you take this seriously, and that you are willing to accept the responsibilities)

Other things you can include in your application include:

  • Examples of things you have done in the past that show you are worthy of Sysopship
  • Flattering comments about the developers
  • Random character splodges such as ^&*(), NU**P_ and Y&F%^&*H.

Please be aware that some of the above may not be conducive to a good application - applicants are invited to use their discretion.

[edit] MrSim

I feel that I should be a Simpedia administrator because:

  • I have worked on many wiki's. On a sort of rival site, Simland, I was a sysop. I can definately benifit the encyclopedia with this right. Please Vote.

I would use my administrator rights to:

  • Complete deletions and avoid vandalism. Also update pages like Main Page.
  • I have been an admin on Simland, another site, and made a good few thousdand contributions there. I mainly did admin duties, there and want to continue here.

I understand that being an admin is an important role and...

  • I can't prove it now, but if I was giving a small amount of time, I could definately prove it. It is an important role, but I could definately deal with it, if it was granted.

Alright. Show us what you've got. I will give you up to one month.—Supuhstar*Image:Supuhstar(SupuhSmall).gif 18:22, 5 June 2008 (CEST)
Thanks for the application. Due to low traffic we are willing to look at your application as it would give Supuh and I more time to advertise. The main swaying point of your application is the Main Page changes. Please change Main Page/MrSim into how you would have the main page. Thanks for your application. I am willing to give you 1 month to design Main Page and make improvements around the site. ńăŧħăń - ŧăłķ 19:44, 5 June 2008 (CEST)
