Neighborhood

Neighborhoods are small miniature worlds within The Sims 2 game. Each neighborhood you create is a seperate isolated world, and Sims cannot travel from one to another. However, families can be moved by placing them in the Families Bin, then moving them to the new neighborhood from it. Houses can be moved in the same way, using the Lots and Houses Bin.
Since houses and families are confined to one neighborhood, it acts as a the equivalent of a "save slot" on other games. Nothing which happens in one neighborhood affects any other neighborhoods.
Each neighborhood can be customized in neighborhood mode, and lots and houses placed within it. From there you can enter a house by clicking on it, or access a sub-neighborhood added by an expansion pack by choosing one of the icons at the top.

[edit] Built-in Neighborhoods

The following neighborhoods are part of The Sims 2 and come with the original game (with the exception of Riverblossom Hills and Desiderata Valley). Even though they are built in, their names can all be edited, the neighborhoods themselves can be deleted, and you can customise them in any way you choose.

[edit] Pleasantview

Pleasantview is a basic neighborhood ideal for the beginner user. It has a few small storylines, which you can choose to continue or disregard, and as the name suggests, it a pleasant place, with many attractive features and nice looking houses. It also contains some characters from the original game.

In-Game Description:
A lot has happened in 25 years, but some new faces in town are stirring up rivalries and creating tension for the once happy families. Can anything be done to get the neighborhood feeling good again?

[edit] Strangetown

Strangetown is a barren wasteland where UFOs have apparently been spotted, and several aliens live in the area. It is the least welcoming of all the neighborhoods, and possibly the most difficult to play, since relationships are strained and alien babies can be hard to look after...

In-Game Description:
Truth-seekers move to Strangetown hoping to discover the secrets the town holds. Do aliens live among us? Do missing Sims mysteriously appear here? In this town nothing is what it seems.

[edit] Veronaville

Veronaville is the most story-orientated neighborhood built into The Sims 2. It contains many references to characters from films and plays, most notably Romeo and Juliet; there are families living in the neighborhood called "Monty" and "Capp," and the neighborhood story describes Romeo's love for Juliet and the feud between the families, set in a modern scene. Other references include characters from "Mean Girls" - add others if you spot them.

In-Game Description:
The Capps and Montys have been feuding for years, but that hasn't stopped the younger generation from crossing boundaries and falling in love. Will their actions lead to ruin or bring the families together?

Fresh crops aren’t the only thing growing in the farming community of Riverblossom Hills – love is in the air and many a relationship is on the verge of blossoming. Unfortunately, problems are bound to sprout in a town this small.
