[edit] What is Create-A-Family?

Create-A-Family, also known as CAF, and, slightly less acurately, Create-A-Sim (CAS), is the screen in which you can create a Sim or a family to play in the game.
You can start by clicking the following button on the neighborhood view.

Prompt for you to enter a family name

When you are in CAF, you are prompted to type in a family name, though its optional until the family is completed.

Start creating. by clicking the icons

To start click the silhouette of a sim with the plus on it. The Sims 2 Pets Expansion Pack is needed to create a Dog or Cat. This is self explanatory, we will get to that locked icon soon.

This is the first step of Create a Sim

Enter First Name - Enter a first name for your new sim
Gender/Sex - Choose between ♀Female or ♂Male
Life Stage - Choose between toddler, child, teen, adult, or elder, respectively.
Skin Tone - Adjust your skin tone by a lighter tone to a darker tone.
Body Mass - Choose between fit or fat. (This is in NO conjunction with the fitness in-game feature! This is permanent for your sim!

Randomize Your Sim Look - Clicking this will force the game to randomize a look for your sim.
Choose a Pre-made Sim - Clicking this will open a screen with pre-made sim collection.

When you are done with this step click the number 2

Choose a head - Choose a head to use as a base for your creation Since step two is short, step three is under this section. This section is about the head.
Change Hair Colour and Style - You may change the colour of the hair and the hair style With Seasons or Bon Voyage installed, you may change the hair style and colour for each outfit!
Change Face - Change the structure of the face
Change Brow - Change the eyebrow structure
Change Eyes - Change the colour and structure of the eye
Change Nose - Change the nose structure
Change Mouth - Change the mouth structure
Change Chin - When will this end?!?! Change the chin structure/appearance
